glossary
Biotechnology is any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms or derivatives thereof to make or modify products or processes for a specific use. Bioengineering is the science upon which all biotechnological applications are based. More ->
Drug delivery is the method or process of administering a pharmaceutical compound to achieve a therapeutic effect in humans or animals. More ->
Medical Implants are medical devices made to replace and act as a missing biological structure, such as stents. A stent is a tube (a scaffold) that is inserted into a natural conduit of the body to prevent or counteract a disease-induced localized flow constriction. A drug-eluting stent (DES) is a stent that slowly releases a drug to block cell proliferation, i.e. to prevent fibrosis that, together with clots (thrombus), could otherwise block the stented artery, a process called restenosis. Nanotech(nology) is used to create many new materials and devices with wide-ranging applications, such as in medicine, electronics, and energy production. More ->
Tissue Engineering is the use of a combination of cells, engineering and materials methods, and suitable bio- and physiochemical factors to improve or replace biological functions. More ->
